PLASTIC BAG FREE ZONE
Modbury was the world's first plastic bag free zone inspired by Rebecca Hoskin. A six month trial back in April 2007 involving the towns 43 shops was so successful that the plastic bag ban was made permanent.
Figures show that all the fuss made at the time did indeed have a great impact and supermarket customers in the UK are now getting through half as many plastic bags as in 2006 according to an article in the Western Morning News in July 2009
